Obviously, from the title of this post, the name that has been chosen is Caspian Kamalani Zumwalt. Thank you to all who voted and made comments on helping us decide on the spelling of Caspian which is a name Zak picked some time ago and has just been waiting for another son to use it. We were a little bummed when the movie "Prince Caspian" came out earlier this year because part of the charm of Caspian is that it is not very common. We started to doubt for a moment whether or not we would use it, but in the end decided it was still just too good of a name to pass up. Kamalani means "Child of Heaven" and is a name we have had picked out since before Koa was born. In fact, I think we had a poll question back before Koa was born and we were trying to decide on a middle name for a girl. We had decided to use the same middle name if we had a girl this time, but couldn't really decide on a first name. We mentioned a few times the idea of using Kamalani for the middle name whether the child be a boy or a girl, but I kept taking issue with the idea that his name would be an alliteration. I just couldn't quite get past that. However, the other names that I liked, Zak didn't really like, and we couldn't come to an agreement on anything else. In the end I decided that I liked the name and its meaning and that's more important than whether or not I like the use of alliterations! So, Caspian Kamalani it is! Now we just need to go sign the birth certificate. Let us know what you think of either name or both! While congratulations are in order to Barak Obama on becoming the first ever African-American President, I am actually referring to the night before Election Day - November 3rd, 2008 - as the historic night. That was the night Caspian Kamalani Zumwalt came into the world! And what a whirlwind night it was! Labor began at 12 midnight and was over before 3 AM! There will be more details to come about that.
